2022 was the first annual Thomas O’Connor Charity Event 1 mile Swim (see results below). This event was started by Leo Briceno as a way to celebrate the Tampa Bay Open Water and Clearwater Lifeguard communities, and to remember to “Live Like Tom.

One this years participants was Brooke Bennett. Brooke holds 3 Olympic gold medals from two Olympic Games; a gold, silver and bronze medals from two World Championships; gold and silver medals from one Pan American Games and a silver medal from one World Championships short course. Brooke finished 1st place in the 2022 Thomas O’Connor Charity Event 1 mile Swim.

We are so happy that Brooke as well as many others participated and/or donated to honor Thomas O’Connor. Brooke said it best whe she wrote on her Facebook page;

“This is more than community…
This is family! Honoring a life lost far too soon, we all stood on Clearwater Beach this morning to support, love and embrace the O’Connor family to assure them we all carry him on…Live Like Tom #LLT ??”

The next event is scheduled for February 11th 2023. Please participate in the “1 Mile Ocean Swim” or come watch the swim and the “Lifeguard Rescue Demo” no matter what, please donate to help us spread the word to increase awareness and the importance of our lifeguards.
